Review moderation policy
We check every review against the same short list of rules. The rules are about content, never about whether a review is positive or negative.
What we always do
- Apply these rules the same way to every review, for every school, whether or not the school is a School Success client or pays for a featured profile.
- Publish negative reviews that follow the rules. A one-star review stays up as long as it meets the same rules as a five-star review.
- Keep a record of every moderation decision and the rule behind it.
- Show reviews in date order, newest first. Payment never changes the order.
Who can write a review
- You must be 18 or older.
- You need a real email address so we can confirm the review came from you. We never publish your email.
- You must have a real connection to the school: current or former parent or guardian, adult student or alum, or staff member. Current or former staff must say so, and we label their reviews.
- One review per person per school. You can update your review later.
Why a review may not be published
We only withhold a review, or part of a review, for one of these reasons:
- Personal information about someone else. Names of children, or contact details or private information about any person. Naming school leaders by title is fine.
- Harassment or abuse. Threats, slurs, hate speech, or obscene or sexually explicit content.
- Discrimination. Content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, religion, sex, disability or another intrinsic trait.
- Clearly false or defamatory statements of fact. For example, accusing a named person of a crime with no basis. Opinions about your experience are welcome.
- Fake or conflicted reviews. Reviews we reasonably believe are fake, written by someone without a real connection to the school, written by staff without disclosure, paid for, or posted by a competing school.
- Off topic. Content that is not about the school or its programs.
- Confidential information. Trade secrets or private financial or student records.
If only part of a review breaks a rule, we may ask you to edit it. We do not rewrite reviews.
Schools can respond
A school that has claimed its profile can post one public response to each review. Schools cannot edit or remove reviews. A school can ask us to check a review against these rules, and we apply the same rules we would for anyone.
Report a review
If you think a review breaks these rules, email hello@schoolsuccessmakers.com with the school name and the reason. We respond to every report.
Our relationship with schools
ParentSchoolReview is a School Success project, and School Success sells marketing services to schools. This policy exists so that relationship never shapes which reviews you see. See our full disclosure.
